While traditionally just a cuddly staple in a child's life, the teddy bear gets an upgrade with the addition of a built-in tote. Recognizing its comforting effect on kids, the Vermont Teddy Bear Company recently introduced the useful Teddy Tote, giving kids another excuse to bring their beloved bear everywhere.

The Teddy Tote looks like a standard stuffed animal but by unzipping its back, a convenient carryall bag unfolds—perfectly-sized for kids to transport coloring books, snacks and more.

"Made from scratch" in Vermont, each Teddy Tote comes with a lifetime guarantee. Launching July 2010, CH has one in advance to give away to a lucky reader. To enter follow us on Twitter and simply tweet @coolhunting with what you would do with a Teddy Tote and we'll pick from entries received before 11:59 pm EST on 29 March 2010.

MSN New Look Now Live in US

Microsoft's MSN portal has been testing a 'new look' on a preview page for the past few months. Comments from those that have checked it out have been somewhat mixed but mostly positive for the new simpler design.

Over the past few weeks, Microsoft has been sending e-mails and also running a banner at the top of the MSN page announcing the upcoming change.

The change is now live for most .... at least here in the US.

One of the things you'll notice immediately is geo-targeting. Even if you are not signed in, the page will deliver news and other results based on your IP (or perceived Internet access location).

The other notable inclusion is a trend chart, not based on Microsoft's Bing xRank, but instead items that have been trending on Twitter:

MSN is also now embracing Facebook Connect directly from the front page. Microsoft is a minority investor in privately-held Facebook.

For now, the new MSN primarily competes with Yahoo and AOL. Both companies launched new layouts as well, also embracing social media, in the past few months.

Microsoft's customizable portal, Live.com recently shut down and offers a page that redirects to the company's search product Bing.

The question that nobody seems to be asking (maybe there's no answer yet?) is what is Microsoft going to do with one of the best web addresses they own .... Start.com ?

Update 1 - Mar 22 - 12:21 AM ET: The new MSN page is apparently also now the default in Canada. (Thanks to Rebekah Jssn chiming in on Google Buzz)

Twitter Creates @anywhere, Opens the Social Web

Twitter has been an open network for some time. Now, they are ready to expand beyond geekdom and attach a level of communication across the Web, using a simple system and a network of high-visibility websites.

The impending release, called @anywhere, will let users follow Twitter accounts and post updates (tweets) to their feeds without ever visiting Twitter.com. Rrom the Twitter blog: Imagine being able to follow a New York Times journalist directly from her byline, tweet about a video without leaving YouTube, and discover new Twitter accounts while visiting the Yahoo! home page—and that’s just the beginning.

Initial partner sites include Amazon, AdAge, Bing, Citysearch, Digg, eBay, The Huffington Post, Meebo, MSNBC.com, The New York Times, Salesforce.com, Yahoo!, and YouTube. Amazon and eBay are particularly interesting, considering the availability of Amazon Associates and the eBay Partner Network, as well as Salesforce.com and their huge affiliate network. Functionality like this will add an entirely new layer of interactivity to the sales process, as well as offer the ability for products to be spread virally. But @anywhere is not limited to big media properties - individual site owners will be able to incorporate the network using only a few lines of javascript, according to Twitter.

In addition, having sites like Bing, Citysearch, Digg, and The New York Times will bring Twitter front and center to a new group of consumers who are not yet using Twitter. For those marketing products or content on Twitter, this could be huge. Of course, it could also result in massive overload for regular Twitter users. At any rate, it's a clear indication that Twitter is not satisfied being a niche service provider - they think they have a consumer-facing product that goes beyond geeks, bloggers, businesses and the press. And they have a good start - just about every major media company and website has their own Twitter account and they promote them relentlessly in print, on TV and even in radio.

If you think about it, @anywhere is a perfect evolution of Twitter, and a perfect antithesis to Facebook. Unlike Facebook, you don't need to know people to connect -- you just have to share a common interest or two. Now, users won't even need to visit Twitter.com to connect, share and discover content. This will allow these connections to be made Web-wide. Where Facebook is holding users (and advertisers) captive, Twitter is setting them free. So the next question is, how will Twitter monetize on this?

Launching today, Tweetshare lets you have Twitter conversations around any piece of content

The annoying aspect of Twitter is that it’s really difficult to follow conversations. There’s nothing inherent to Twitter that makes it easy for you to backtrack a conversation. What many people use for conversation tracking is hashtags, and then searching on the hashtags. Problem with hashtags is they’re not threaded so you can’t see specifically how one person responded to another. Nor can you see the beginning of the conversation.

One service I’ve used before that’s a good solution is Twitoaster, which allows you to follow conversations that you initiate, or someone else initiates. It’s pretty good if you ask a question and you want to follow everyone’s answer to it, but it’s hard to back track a tweet up to its source.

Following conversations is necessary because so many people send out tweets that don’t reference what they’re talking about beyond the @ reply.

Launching today is a new service called Tweetshare, which allows you to have Twitter conversations around any piece of content, whether it’s an HD video, picture, Word document, or anything else. Load the content, and then tweet it out from Tweetshare. The automatically included link takes readers of your tweet back to the Tweetshare space where the content resides. Each response you give includes that Tweetshare space link, allowing everyone to be in the same space talking about the piece of content. As you would with a blog or website, you can create a branded Tweetshare page to post all your tweetable content.

Tweetshare is also a brand new client of mine, and I’ll be attending SXSW next week shooting videos for Tweetshare and posting them to their tweetable zones. I invite all of you to participate then, but feel free to try out the service now. All you need to do is log in with your Twitter account.

But I’m interested in knowing what services you use to follow Twitter conversations. Do you use any, or do you just use search? Or do you don’t even bother because it’s far too complicated?David Spark helps businesses grow by developing thought leadership through storytelling and covering live events at Spark Media Solutions.
The Internet marketing landscape is changing.

It's changing at a pace that nobody would have imagined just a year ago.

Networks that used to drive traffic simply aren't.

The focus of the tech community over the past year (and more) has been real-time.

There's is a lot of good there ... and also some serious drawbacks.

Then there are those 'pipes'. You know, those imported (and in some cases exported) posts you see in your Facebook, Twitter, and other feeds.

Since the advent of Friendfeed, I've counted over 50 'significant' networks where you can pull and push your content, and content from others.

Note: Exercise a little caution here ... If you 'share' too much, there's a good chance people will block you, unfollow you or whatever YOUR network of choice calls it.

A few days ago, I was called out on Google Buzz for importing my Twitter feed. The young lady that made the call was right. For me, they're two separate worlds. It was a bad fit in my case ... and I promptly turned it off.

So what's with the headline about headlines Charlie?

We're living in a sea of blogs and websites, not to mention major portals and others, that want your pageviews. Some want them pretty badly to remain economically viable.

Assuming you want people to read your stuff and you're not just creating a blog for technical or other reasons, it's important to recognize (and embrace) change.

Headlines (SEO aside for the moment) have always been important. If you work hard (or just make sense?), aggregators will include you. You may actually get a play on voting sites (Digg, Mixx, StumbleUpon, others) without asking someone to post your piece (which, in reality, is really what happens in MANY cases).

Regardless, you want those eyeballs.

Not tomorrow .... today.
\
I've been sharing my Google Reader picks a few times daily for a long time, as many others do.

In my case, there are two reasons: (1) If I don't have time to post here, you can always find some fresh stuff the the Google Shared feeds in the right column ... even subscribe to the whole thing if you wish .... (2) There are a lot of hard working bloggers out there that deliver value. They deserve to be read, recognized and watched. If my shares gets them a few page views, well, hopefully they'll keep on writing.

Enter Google Buzz. With the wholesale adoption of Google Buzz because of it's launch within Gmail, it is already a platform. That platform is tied directly to Google Reader, where I've seen a five-fold increase in followers since Buzz launched.

Now, I not only have some excellent, fun and interesting feeds to look at in the morning (and sometimes evening ...) but I also have many of yours. Some say it's out of control. It's not, and easily tweaked whenever you feel like it.

You don't have to sensationalize your headline. While MANY in the mainstream (and not so mainstream) use this vehicle to gain viewers, it's just not my style.

What you DO want is for people to click and read what you wrote. Simple premise right?

Whether it's an aggregator, a re-tweet, an import to Facebook (or wherever), your title makes it MUCH easier for people to find what they want to read, especially now that all of these networks are interlacing and even more so, with the 'here now, gone in a few minutes' world of real-time.

What prompted this post is that there are some really brilliant bloggers out there that don't write topical titles (or worse). I don't know if they're simply jaded and assume everyone already knows who they are and read them every day or what.

Those days are over.

Most people have x amount of time in a day for the Internet and if you lose their interest, you'll have to gain it back.

As far as I'm concerned, there are probably hundreds of blogging rockstars out there that I'd love to be reading, and maybe sharing.

Make my discovery easier. Use a good, solid title in your next post.

I'm pretty sure someone will share it.

It just works.

ShareThis Upgrades, Gets More Interactive

ShareThis, one the Web's leading content sharing widgets just got some new upgrades, and they are substantial.

Stream is a real-time view of what's being shared across the Web through the ShareThis community. Think of it like Google's scrolling real-time search results box or a stream of Facebook updates. For now, it's only on the ShareThis website, but will soon be a customizable, embeddable widget for websites and available with an API. See how ShareThis Stream works.

New share buttons are more customizable. Publishers can now remove particular networks from the ShareThis options for users. Don't want your content shared through Twitter, but prefer Facebook? That can be accomodated. It's a nice way for publishers to control where the conversations about their content is taking place, or even to run A/B tests to find what networks are of most value.

Related content on the Done screen. After a user shares content, ShareThis will now display related content from your site on the user's screen. It's a nice way to keep the ball rolling, and hopefully get users to keep sharing your content.

"See what your friends are sharing" will also be featured on the Done screen. If users click on these links, they will be directed to the ShareThis Stream, filtered by your content.

Social sign in - users can sign in prior to sharing via their Facebook, Twitter, Google and Yahoo! profiles. It's a growing trend on the Web and facilitates sharing well beyond the ShareThis community and strictly personal contacts.

Integration with Twitter OAuth allows for a more direct way to share content with Twitter.

In addition to these updated ShareThis is also planning to include Google Buzz in the near future, among other features.

A few quick notes about ShareThis, and why publishers should actively promote the service on their websites:

According to their website, ShareThis reaches more than 400 million users across 130,000 different websites.

What might be most significant about social sign in is that it could open ShareThis to an entirely new set of users - one that is accustomed to sharing content and likely doesn't yet know about or use ShareThis. While it's a powerful tool, it has yet to catch on with many Web users. That could change very quickly if an audience as large as Facebook catches on.

ShareThis can be integrated with Google Analytics and has Influence Insights, their own analytics service. Even if your content is not spread widely through ShareThis, these analytics can show where your content has the most potential to be shared. That's good to know.

Click to sign up for the beta release of these new features and access to the API.

Wufoo Gets (very) Notification Friendly

Online form building service Wufoo announced this week that they have made some serious headway into real time notification
integrations.

The Wufoo notification platform enables users to send real time updates about entries collected in Wufoo to Web applications such as Twitter, Campaign Monitor,
HighRise, Campfire, MailChimp, Freshbooks and Webhooks. Let's dig a little deeper.

Perhaps the most newsworthy feature (but far from the most interesting in my opinion) is the ability tie Wufoo into Twitter. The integration enables members of your team to stay up to date about form activity. Wufoo and Twitter together could also help you build some excitement around events by showing participation in real-time.

Wufoo has also integrated with a few email services, including Campaign Monitor and
MailChimp. Both of these integrations essentially enable Wufoo users add new leads to their database without having to import CSV files, including custom fields and/or conditional checkboxes.
